Our first grant project
SCC has been awarded a grant for our proposed job-skill and empowerment project.
We are excited that our organisation’s first attempt at doing meaningful community work in Eressos, besides being a centre for classes and workshops, led to us receiving this grant.
Our first project’s theme is job-skill training for women and gender diverse people who identify as lesbians, to empower and strengthen them and ultimately work towards their financial stability.
The objectives are research about employer needs in Eressos and Skala Eressou that will culminate in various job skills training sessions. These will include information for both parties about labour and anti-discrimination laws, Greek and English language skills, and cultural competency. We are also planning an open skill share event and a workshop about traditional local Greek crafts and skills for the greater community.
We hope to bring people together while at the same time creating a possibility of access to Skala Eressou for lesbians who otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford a visit or stay. These can be lesbians from Greece, from other European countries, and those who have found asylum on the island from prosecution in their homelands because of their sexual orientation and/or precarious living situations.
Volunteer?
We are looking for volunteers who would like to get involved, help with the workshops, teach a skill, act as mentors, or help organise or take part in project tasks and events. Please contact us. There are many different skills needed.
